A Safer and Cheaper Way of Cleaning your Silver

Silver dishes and flatware add pleasure to your dining table. Unfortunately, tarnish and stains may develop. Commercial silver polish and cleansers cost a lot and contain chemicals that may be harmful for you but there are simple and cheaper DIY guides to make your own non toxic cleansers using mostly things that you can find in your kitchen!

You can use white toothpaste for removing smaller stains by just rubbing the toothpaste directly on the tarnish using your finger. For bigger pieces, baking soda and a damp sponge would do the trick. Make a paste of baking soda and water then rub the paste into the silver using the clean sponge. Rinse with hot water then polish dry using a soft towel. For badly tarnished silver, you can leave the paste on the silver for an hour.

Another method of removing stains and tarnish is by lining an aluminum foil on a big container or your sink. The shiny side of the foil should be facing up then boil enough water to fill the container or the sink. Lay the tarnished silver into the container. This would make the tarnish transfer from the silver to the foil. You can also rub the silver with the paste of baking soda and water before placing it to the aluminum foil then fill the container with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. After removing the tarnish, wipe and clean using a soft dry cloth and you will be surprised with the results! Your silver utensils and dishes will be spotless and shimmering again!
