Humidifying your Indoor Plants

Plants need moisture to remain healthy just like the environment they have in the wild. Indoor air can be very dry especially in the winter caused by the fan and the heating systems that you use. Lack of humidity may cause your indoor plants to die but you can take necessary measures to alleviate the dryness found in your home.

Water your plants regularly. Misting the plants from time to time will cut the dryness but you can use a humidifier to do this task. A simple trick to increase humidity levels around your houseplants is using a pebble tray. Put an inch deep of pea size pebbles into a water tray that is as wide as the houseplant. Pour a half inch deep of water over the pebbles then place the tray under the pots. As the water in the tray evaporates slowly, humidity around the plants increases. Refill the pebble tray with water regularly for constant humidity. For hanging plants, you can hang damp pebbles in a dish under the plant. You can attach the dish to the plant basket and suspend it about six inches under the hanging plant.

Covering your plants with plastic bags or the tops of plastic bottles will also trap the air around the plant when water evaporates from the plant. Another strategy is by grouping your indoor plants together. This way, plants capture the vapor given off by the other plants. These are just simple tasks that you can do but the end result is satisfying.
